As for the story...

Upon hearing this strange noise the two remaining pirates leave to go back with thier buddy waiting by the shore. Our heros are left to deal with this threat. After only seconds the adversary pops out of the bushes, revealing itself to be nothing more than a small lemur. It quickly befriends Iso as it jumps on her shoulder and perches there.

The next sound they begin to hear is the sound of drums. War drums. Following in tune is some strange chanting. The group walks toward this noise to find a small village at the bottom of a hill. Kaeryo, ready to get to the murderous job before her, wastes no time before jogging down the hill. As soon as she's noticed she smirks and waves.

The village Shaman seems to consider her for a small bit. He obviously makes his decision as he reaches for the book beside him. He opens it and Kaeryo is sucked into its pages.

By the time the others reach the camp they are met with the sounds of cheering. Katleen begins talking to them in thier native language. It almost appears as if she is getting through to them when the village Chief comes out. He tells the Shaman to do his job and protect the village. He does as he's told and opens the book, pulling Katleen into its pages as well. While trying to figure out what to do, Iso and Braxon get taken in as well.

They all look up to see themselves in what appears to be Lamia, although Iso and Braxon are the only ones to recognise it. But they even have problems doing so. All of the colors are inverse as if painted there. There are spirits walking around and speech sounds like the person talking is standing at the end of a long tunnel. The weirdest part is some pinkish orange lettering on a huge barn that is in an unknown language.

Braxon is standing alone in the square. Walking past he notices the head priest that was wanting to talk to him. Braxon tries to speak to the man, but the priest speaks nonsense back to him and Braxon is not able to tell what the other man is saying.

Off in another part of town Iso bumps into a resident she doesn't recognise. She instantly notices he looks regularly colored, so she realizes he is not painted into this odd world, but is rather an unwilling part of it as she is. She finds out his name is Zysik (pronounced Zy-sk) before one of the spirits takes notice of them and comes over to attack.

Braxon is joined by Kaeryo and then Katleen. They too see a shadow phasing in and out before getting attacked. Kaeryo notices that her mace looks as if it is dripping blood, but it doesn't do anything when she attacks. The shadow watches the mace fly through itself before turning to Kaeryo with a smile.

Iso and Zysik aren't having any better luck. Zysik isn't able to hit the creature and Iso's fire is not working either. Zysik runs to hide, thinking there's nothing he can do but watch. Iso stays to fight but pays dearly. The shadow takes away all of her strength, leaving her unconscious on the ground and in danger of become a shadow herself. Zysik runs back to see if there is anything he can do but quickly finds there isn't.

Braxon looses control of himself as Malikite takes over. But instead of attacking the creature, Malikite turns its sword toward Kaeryo. It stabs her in her leg, letting blood run down over her mace. Malikite points to the now glowing mace and instructs her in Dragonic to "Fight with that!" After his words, Katleen hears a terrible scream off in the distance. She tells Kaeryo and Braxon about it, pointing in the direction from where it came. Knowing Kaeryo didn't need his help anymore but that someone else did, Braxon takes off for where the scream came from.

He arrives to find Iso near death on the ground. He is forced to take a few seconds for Malikite to decide if he's going to let Braxon use up his only heal for the day. Malikite worries that he won't have it later to use on Braxon, but goes ahead and heals Iso, realizing that would be one more person to help keep his carrier alive.

Kaeryo's mace is now flying through the shadows with fury. She dispatches the one left by herself and Katleen, then runs and kills the ones by Iso, Braxon, and Zysik.

Braxon now has some time to think. He can't recall much about cases like this, just that there's usually some item that needs to be destroyed to release the spell. The group goes to search, oddly finding whatever it is they desire. Katleen wants to find instuments and finds an entire room full of them. However when she goes to grab one it melts into paint. Zysik has a similar problem with the weapons he was hoping to find.

Braxon's search has a bit more success. In a tavern he finds an alternate version of Noitop. He can tell this isn't the real Noitop because this one is working on helping others by figuring out a solution to the town's hunger problem. He doesn't say much before going back to work on the problem, but he does happen to mention that he doesn't go in the church.

Braxon comes out to find bananas raining down on Iso, making her search the most fruitful of them all. The lemur on her shoulder excitedly scoops up the bananas that don't splatter into paint. Braxon mentions what Noitop said to him, then goes to find the others. All of them are asembled but Kaeryo. He searches a little longer for her and is shocked at what he finds. She has settled in a room of hellish proportions. There are people screaming out from torture. Pinnings of anarchy and governments falling line the walls. All around the top edge of the room in every concievable language is the word "Evil". And perhaps the most damning is a painting of Kaeryo standing beside the God Vecna, Kaeryo with her blood mace held high. When Braxon questions what she was doing in there she simply says she was just taking care of her leg as quickly as she could. Braxon realizes for the first time that there might be something not right anymore about this woman.

The gang reaches the church and is able to tear off the wooden slats quite easily. After stepping in Iso and Braxon can see its an almost exact replica of the church in Lamia. The only thing that is different is that there is a symbol at the front that Braxon doesn't recognise, he just knows it isn't a Garl Glittergold symbol as it should be. After a few more steps something begins to scream at them in Demonic causing the whole structure to shake. A floating shadow known as an Allip materializes in the room. The creature tells them to leave the symbol alone and puts suggestions in Katleen and Kaeryo's heads to leave this place and never return. Iso isn't affected by the mind nudge and throws a dagger at the symbol up front, causing it to crack. The Allip begins to attack, but Braxon turns it away. Iso throws another dagger and the symbol shatters. Paint and chalk began to melt away, leaving only the white of a canvas. The white sky begins to rip, only black beyond it. Paint begins to swirl into the darkness as do our heros.

The gang wakes up in the little village just in time to see the book flipping closed. They can see all of thier pictures have been etched onto the front with a title "Adventures in Aimal", which is Lamia spelled backwards. Zysik picks the book up and notices that there is text inside, chronicling thier entire adventure. There are even a few illustrations, the one with Kaeryo in the room of evil particularly catching his eye.

Kaeryo begins to steam, intent on finding the Shaman that entrapped her. She searchs through the sleeping huts until she finds him, along with his two wives. Kaeryo attempts to sneak in, but their pet dog begins to growl. She takes a swing at it, sending a stream of blood out the window. She finds her intended target and quickly bashes her mace into his skull. The wives begin to scream in terror, which serves as only annoyance to Kaeryo. She attempts to swing at one of them, but her aim is off and her momentum great. Kaeryo looses grip on her mace and it goes flying out the window. While running outside to grab it the wives begin to flee. Kaeryo catches up with one, breaking her leg first before beating her to death. She follows a trail of blood to the other one and smashes the whimpering native's face in.

Iso is off killing villagers as she has been instructed to do. Zysik knows nothing of the pirates so he is resting off somewhere, away from the killing he considers senseless. Katleen is doing what comes naturally and begins setting huts ablaze, catching some of the forest on fire as well.

Kaeryo knocks down one of the villagers in front of Braxon as if playing with it, then snickers at the sound of its cracking skull. With smirk in place she takes off to kill more. Braxon tries to go help, but Malikite will not allow it. He sees no point to this killing, saying if anyone deserves to die it is the pirates themselves. Malikite tries to instruct Braxon to attack his party members, but Braxon refuses. Although he says if Malikite knows any way to stop them without hurting them then he'd be willing to do so. Malikite mentions that the pirate captian has gone mad with power quite abruptly. The rest of thier conversation is halted as Iso comes running up. "Talking to yourself?" she quips. To which Braxon makes no better by replying "No, my sword."

Braxon in all curiousity asks Iso if she's noticed anything unusual about Kaeryo lately. Iso can't really think of any such occurence, but promisses to keep an eye out, if for no other reason than to appease Braxon at the moment. She also is a little reserved when Braxon tells her that the sword told him that the pirate captian had gone crazy.

Katleen comes up and the three find thier way back to shore. However the pirates as well as the canoes are gone. Although the ship is still out in the water. Katleen uses an alarm whistle and eventually they see a canoe release itself from the ship and head toward the island.

Iso and Braxon go to find thier lost companians. Iso finds Katleen resting on the beach. Kaeryo shrugs and heads back to shore. Iso also finds Zysik on the way back. He is unsure if he really wants to come with them or not as he is not happy about the seemingly random killings they were involved in. He stands his ground and bluntly asks Iso why they were killing the villagers. The two nearly have a verbal argument before they calm themselves and head back to shore.

They get there to find Braxon and Kaeryo out on the canoe fighting whoever was in it. Braxon has been taken over by Malikite yet again while Kaeryo is just having fun. Zysik asks if that is the pirate that ordered the villagers killed. When Iso says it is, Zysik throws himself into the fray, helping in the eventual death of the pirate captian. Since he doesn't need to breathe thanks to Malikite, Braxon dives into the water and loots the dead man's body.

They use the canoe to get back out to the regular boat. Zysik peeks over the side to a deadful sight. The deck is littered with the bodies of countless pirates. Below decks they are happy to find thier crew is still alive. Iso goes to work releasing them from their cells by picking locks. Ludwig latches on to the face he had never seen before in Zysik and begins telling his stories. Katleen suggests to Ludwig that he tell the story about the mummies. Ludwig shrugs and mumbles, "I don't seem to remember that one."

Braxon notices that Lerum's nephew isn't anywhere to be found. Jameson mentions that one night they were all up deck. Suddenly the pirates moved them all down to their cells, although the boy was not braught down. They assumed he would be braught later, but he never was. Braxon goes to find the boy but finds something disturbing in the lower decks. On one of the doorways he finds some strange clawmarks.

Iso has also went on the search. Although all she was able to find was crab cakes. On the way back up top she noticed the door to the captian's quarters was locked. She picks it and finds a gnome inside. Upon further inspection she realizes its Noitop. She just didn't recognise him under the gigantic captian's hat he was wearing. He says he's hiding because he didn't want to end up dead as well.

Jameson mentions he doesn't want to be any later than they are already going to be. While on the journey Katleen, Zysik, and Braxon go back down to the storage room where Braxon found the claw marks. Zysik, a skilled ranger, doesn't notice anything about the marks that Braxon hadn't already metnioned, but he was able to find a set of tracks that get bigger all of a sudden. It's as if whoever was walking suddenly grew a few shoe sizes in one step.

The voyage goes without any more hinderances, eventually reaching a port town south of Lamia called Torpton. Jameson lets the group know that he'll sail them anywhere in the world they want to go for five hundred gold. He also mentions that he's in need of a crew and that they are more than welcomed to stay on and help out if they'd like.

The group goes about readying themselves for the trip. Brotar needs no extra help because his arm is now healed. Katleen asks Noitop for some pointers on something he calls a "discount". She distracts a sword menchant while Noitop took a chest from the back room. Noitop takes it upon himself to take Katleen's money pouch and go buy everyone horses. Fully stocked and healed, not to mention running from an angry sword vendor, the group takes off for Lamia.

However they are not prepared for what they find there. Bodies are strewn all over the town like used party favors. Someone has been here, and they've had a jolly time with what they've done. They look up at a huge barn. The message they were not able to understand in the book they can now read in chilling detail. They are also able to tell the pinkish orange coloring was due to the fact that this note was written in blood. The note begins with "After my encounter with your friend Luthor," which are words that send shivers down the spines of most of the party. The note goes on to mention how after throwing Luthor into the fourth level of Hell, this person faught thier way up out of the remaining three levels. He also mentions how gravely upset he is with the heros now. The note was smugly signed Ra-Il.

After this scare the group returns to find that all of thier horses' legs have been broken. Jo-Lee and Darwoc ride into town looking utterly confused. Braxon searches the head priest's office to see if he can find anything mentioning what he was wantng to talk to Braxon about. All he can find is a note that tells Braxon how proud the other man was of him and that he is now a full cleric with the church. The note also mentions that there was something the priest wished to discuss with Braxon, but he wouldn't do it in just a letter.

The group leaves Lamia behind, unsure if they were being followed or not.

  • ...forgot about....

There was some confusion about the creature that Iso found. For sometime it was thought to be an Emu....but it was a lemur. Could you imagine an Emu on Iso's shoulder...it would crush her like a bug. The whole banana thing makes sense after you found out it was a lemur. ...lol...smn
    • Re: ...forgot about....

I assumed Nick meant to call it a lemur from the begining, so i put that in here how he intended it. Figured itd be less confussing for the readers. I know it doesnt take much to confuse the hell outta me! LOL! Well or to get me to eat lollypops... >;)
